I Could Show You My Favorite Obsession

Tim Curry made a rare public appearance following his stroke at the Westin Hotel outside LAX for the last Hollywood Show of the year where he was reunited with Rocky Horror Picture Show Co-Stars Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell, and Barry Bostwick along with Annie star Aileen Quinn and Clue actress Lesley Ann Warren.

It was bittersweet meeting Tim Curry. An actor I’ve long admired having seen him in Clue (Wadsworth) and Rocky Horror Picture Show (Dr. Frankenfurter), as well as many of my childhood cartoons such as The Wild Thornberrys (Nigel Thornberry), Peter Pan and the Pirates (Captain Hook), and Ferngully (Hexxus), not to mention a few of my nightmares such as Pennywise in It and Darkness in Legend, Tim Curry has never given a bad performance. It was a pleasure to finally meet him but seeing him in a wheelchair after his stroke was heartbreaking. My earliest memory of him is his performance in Clue as Wadsworth the butler. My favorite scene of the movie comes at the denouement where Wadsworth uncovers the murderer, and with great energy, he recreates every moment from the evening. Seeing the man who (spoiler) turned out to be Mr. Boddy in the third ending and orchestrated the whole evening to eliminate the witnesses now confined to a wheelchair was hard.

What made the experience memorable though was that before each person got a photo with him, Tim took a couple minutes to chat with him or her and give them a moment. It was touching seeing so many people show such love and affection for a beloved man. I told him what a pleasure it was to meet him and he was quite impressed with my suit and told me in almost a whisper that I looked “quite smart.” I’ll never forget this experience.
